    The MMK Museum of Modern Art in Frankfurt am Main shows how fashion has changed our view of the world. In the 1990s, invented the fashion scene, especially through the medium of photography radically new.     The exhibition at MMK shows how radical and innovative, this generation was and what impact it has on the visual arts today. The complex presentation with over 200 works of photography, original documentaries and an extensive program of live events illustrates how to penetrate the areas of fashion design, photography and art and influence each other. This is expressed mainly in magazines such as iD magazine, The Face, Six, Visionaire or Purple.

    Ten photographers who have shaped these years pioneering record on the premises of the MMK with selected works. For example, Wolfgang Tillmans, Mark Borthwick, Corinne Day and Anders Edström this attack works on from that time to introduce it again in a contemporary context.

    The special exhibition is designed as a comparison of the concurrent presentation of "Contemporary Photography from the Collection of the MMK, which the fashion industry in the overall context of contemporary photography can be considered. It becomes clear how much the photographer of the exhibition "Not in Fashion" by artists such as Larry Clark, Nobuyoshi Araki, Jock Sturges, Beat Streuli and Thomas Ruff were affected - all key positions in the collection of the MMK.

    To take up the momentary nature of fashion, the MMK presented to the special exhibition a diverse program of events. For example, the stage designer Walter von Beirendonck, Susan Cianciolo and Kostas Murkudis performances and fashion shows, the Italian artist Vanessa Beecroft specially designed for the exhibition is a retro version of its famous "VB" performances. Helmut Lang and Juergen Teller will present a selection of photographs, the dishes behind the scenes of Lang's fashion shows of the 90s has taken. The long collaboration of two artists learn by Helmut Lang's work, "Front Row" and the original documentation of his showrooms again a special emphasis. The German-French fashion duo BLESS developed a project in newspaper format and then a very active group of artists Bernadette Corporation "gives a lecture on the origins of her New York collective.

    A concrete idea of the creative work of the fashion scene in the 1990s gives a comprehensive historical documentation, which represents a further substantial part of the exhibition. Here are reproductions of influential photo spreads and innovative advertising campaigns, such as Helmut Lang, Yohji Yamamoto and Juergen Teller or browse a large selection of original fashion magazines. The graphic designers M / M (Paris) who have since the early 1990s, pioneering work in the fashion, advertising and magazine design put together this documentary Overview of MMK.

    The exhibition is supported by two important institutions, which once again underlines the importance of this project. The Cultural Fund Frankfurt-Rhein-Main, whose goal is to consolidate in a Europe of regions, the strength of the location Frankfurt-Rhein-Main and make visible possible with major projects, this exhibition.     The exhibition is accompanied by a detailed catalog by Kerber Verlag. The catalog includes 200 illustrations of the photographers and designers, historical campaigns as well as central photo spreads and contributions of historical journals. It contains essays by Michael Bracewell, Jason Evans, Antje Krause-election, Mauricio Guillen, Jule Hill gardener, Helmut Lang, Sarah Morris and by the exhibition curator Sophie von Olfers Others.
