Sitbon Returning to Runway After Three-Year Hiatus

One
of France?s most admired designers, Martine Sitbon, is to return to the
Paris catwalks next month after a hiatus of three years.
Sitbon will show her collection using her new brand name, Rue du
Mail, which refers to the address of her fashion house?s headquarters
at Rue du Mail in the heart of the artistic Marais quarter.
The label?s debut collection will be presented on March 2nd (that's today), the
third last day of the Autumn 2007 ready-to-wear season in Paris. No
decision has been made concerning the location of her show, though
inside sources suggest she may end up the Museum de l?Homme, the
again-fashionable show space at the Place de Trocadero overlooking the
Eiffel Tower.
?In many ways, I am the same designer and have the same
sensibility, but Rue du Mail is updated for today?s mood,? said Sitbon,
an innovative designer known for her delicate sensibility and her urban
edge. Sitbon, who was once the celebrated designer of Chloe, last
showed in Paris in the Autumn 2004 season.
At Rue du Mail Sitbon has a 7,000 square-foot headquarters that
houses her studio, atelier, showroom, administrative offices and,
eventually a store, due open in July of this year.
Sitbon?s relaunch is being funded by Rue du Mail?s new chairman
Jimmy Chan, who made his investment via a company called Semeiotics,
Inc., an investment vehicle, with stakes in different design industries
globally.
?Semeiotics believes in fostering creativity. Its purpose is to set
platforms for designers to perform. Having Martine as partner, it is
not a matter of supporting her, but for us to support each other, I
obviously have much to learn from her,? Chan in a release.
Completing the team, Yasuo Umetada, the former president of Yohji
Yamamoto, has been named President of Rude du Mail, while Sitbon?s
long-time alter ego, Marc Ascoli, is the Director of Image.
