    Yohji Yamamoto x Mandarina Duck

A little infor on Yohji's collab with Mandarina Duck. I think the red dress/bag is absolutely brilliant, and naturally has laika's name all over it...

    YOHJI YAMAMOTO/ MANDARINA DUCK COLLABORATION

If you thought no piece of luggage short of a Louis Vuitton steamer
trunk could get your heart pounding, an innovative collaboration
between avant-garde icon Yohji Yamamoto and travel-gear company
Mandarina Duck might just change your mind. Ranging from wearable,
functional, and surprisingly sensual clothing/bag hybrids that drape
sculpturally over the body, to understatedly chic totes that invest the
humble carry-on with a couture quality attention to details, this
quirky-on-paper collaboration makes perfect sense off the page.

I think the line is formally called Y's Mandarina.

Dress/bag, $1,050 at Yohji Yamamoto, NYC

Bag, $600 at Alan Bilzerian, Boston

Bag (looks like it goes around your waste) $760 at Takashimaya, NYC

Briefcase, $460 at Red Bird, Berkley, CA

    Wallet, $290 at Takashimaya, NYC

Mesenger bag (looks like you can fasten it to your body) $280 at Yohji Yamamoto, NYC

Black leather bag $550 at Alan Bilzerian, Boston

Canvas/leather bag $330 at Red Bird, Berkley, CA

    Tote $440 at Takashimaya, NYC

Small wallet, $190 at Takashimaya, NYC

Does the pricing seem weird to anyone else? The small goods at Takashimaya seem really overpiced compared to everything else.

Thanks for the tip, Faust. I really think this could be an affordable
addition, bag-wise, to my wardrobe. I really like the canvas-leather
    bag and the messenger.

Faust, you know me too welI! I have been in raptures over that red dress/bag since I first laid eyes on it.[:$] Naturally, it's the most expensive piece in the collection.

I was surprised by the prices of the small accessories as well, but I assume the expense is due to the leather. I saw a few of the canvas and canvas/leather bags at Takashimaya, and they are certainly very nice and very reasonably priced.

But the only stuff that really excites me is the garment/bag hybrids. I keep hoping that this kind of thing will become a trend, because I would love to see people zipping around the city wearing stuff like that. I can also imagine Chalayan designing something amazing along those lines.

Junya did it in FW05 (04? - it's in my thesis[:D]) - I think Johnny has such a jacket. They only thing with the dress is.. well, if you don't have much underneath, it's not too practical to fold it in a bag on the spot :-)

Oh yes, I remember that Junya collection. [U] I wish I saw people wearing stuff like that on the streets!

BTW, that red creation is open on one side....so I think modesty (at least mine) would demand one wear something underneath. [:$]

Bless also had a similar concept of bag/garments hybrid a while back.

The red dress is really nice :)

Re: Yohji Yamamoto x Mandarina Duck

I checked out some stuff at the Yohji Yamamoto boutique last week. I liked the stuff without the huge Y's logo. There was the messenger in white canvas, very pretty. The leather accessories were killed by the aforementioned logo, but they were of good quality themselves.

Mmm, something like that. It was a perfect size, not too big, not too small.
