    Fashion and Art Collaborations

Something I was thinking about lately. Which ones have happened in fashion history and when? I know

Helmut Lang and Jenny Holzer/Louis Bourgeois
Ann Demeulemeester and Jim Dine/Steven Klein/Julia Margaret Cameron/Kara Walker.

Then we have the whole LVMH craze - Murakami, Prince.

    What else?
Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months - Oscar Wilde

Peter Saville/Raf Simons from Fall/Winter 2003 - does that count?

Off the top of my head there was Schiaparelli and the Surrealists in the 30s and Vionnet and the Futurists (they did a lot of her fashion illustrations) in the 20s (I think). There is also the ongoing ones between Isabel and Ruben Toledo but I'm not sure if you're looking for fine art collaborations specifically. Does CDG's Play collaboration count?

There are a lot of designers that have used specific artist's works in their clothes, but I'm guessing that's not what you're looking for?

Also, Versace collaborated with Tim Roelof for FW08 and shoe brands like Ferragamo, Manolo Blahnik, and Christian Louboutin have all collaborated with various photographers and artists, but I think the stuff produced wasn't actually sold...

You're thinking of direct collaboration having to do with the garments themselves or something else?

i dont know much about fashion..
but what i look forward is a collaboration between yayoi kusama and rei kawakubo..

i think fashion is part of art, people dressing up nicely everyday is like making an art work of their own..

                        Hello there~

I am a cat.. or rather I want to be a cat..

I was asking because it seems to me that being able to process their cultural environment is a designer's job, the references may be oblique or direct, acknowledged or not but they're always there.

I meant the overt ones, Fuuma - even if it's something non-clothing related like Jenny Holzer installations at Helmut Lang boutiques.

BTW, does anyone know the name of the artist Carol admires? Satoru once told me, but I forgot the name.

I believe it's Schiele... some people here have mentioned him.
