Victims lie in the rubble, on the day after the Rana Plaza
building in Savar, Bangladesh, collapsed. The relationship
between the two people is not known. The Rana Plaza
accommodated five garment factories. In the days following
the disaster, more than 800 bodies were visually identified
by relatives, or by using ID cards or personal possessions.
Relatives of others had to give DNA samples, but months
after the incident many had still not been able to identify
missing family members. The collapse of the Rana Plaza
ranks as one of the worst industrial accidents in history.
Workers in the factories made clothes for popular Western
brands. The disaster highlighted the hazardous conditions
workers face in Bangladesh's €16 bilion garment industry,
where many are paid as little as €30 a month. Only a few of
the brands using the factories attended a meeting of the
world's largest retailers in Geneva, in the aftermath of the
Rana Plaza collapse, and four made contributions to a
compensation fund for victims and their families.Comment

While you're there, visit the Radical Eye photography show as well - the most amazing exhibition of modernist photography (from Elton John's collection!). There's a wide range of work, from surrealist work (a lot of Man Ray) to Farm Security Administration images by Lange et al.
(And don't miss the film that accompanies the show, in which the great man himself displays the work in situ: the shots of his house with all the pictures on the walls are...well, they're something else).Comment
