Yeah, you definitely had to be there at the time (hence my comment above). It was a zeitgeist shifting thing. It's not as obvious from the collections as from the ad campaigns, the changing of the silhouette, the PR blitzkrieg, etc. Hedi at Dior was the first designer that convinced the mainstream man (and by that I mean, the GQ-reading, Hugo Boss wearing male) to try something more adventurous. Those long coats are absolutely divine. This collection's tailoring, combined with the very heavy wool/cashmere fabrics resulted in some seriously beautiful garments. I'd kill for the coat in picture #3.
