It seems there's a new trickle down sales model. Sales start earlier and earlier but with smaller discounts. It seems like a few years ago nothing went on sale before Thanksgiving then suddenly everything was 40-50% off. I guess stores need to do what they can to stay in business but I selfishly miss the old model because much less good stuff is left by the time it gets marked down to a price I can afford.

It definitely seems like there have been lots of 'pre-sales' this year. It's barely been fall for a month now. Smaller discounts definitely makes it seem less exciting, too. I don't think 15-20% off would ever really be the deciding factor for me though. If I liked the piece enough I would buy it at full retail; if not I'd be waiting for a more substantial discount.
