50% for US and no discount for europe is just wrong. I hope they got lots of complaints and will change things next time.

I really think this has to do with the European laws dictating when the sales could start. I don't think it's their fault. And if not, it makes total business sense. If the stores in the US start the sales early, than they are disadvantaged.Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months - Oscar Wilde

yah sure. but on the other hand it makes NO business sense to piss off your european customers - and as far as i know (unless there is some particularly hairy italian legislation on this - which i suppose wouldn't be the first time for excessive red-taping in that country...) there is nothing to prevent them from starting european sales early.

yoox (italian based company) goes on sale whenever it wants, any time of the year
in italy sales in fisical stores start officially around Jan 6th and that's regulated by the law, but I think on-line shops can do whatever they want... for instance, this morning I recieved a 30% off promo code from Luisaviaroma, which I used on Augusta boots and worked fine
Also, fisical stores like Daad Dantone in Milan or Antonioli do pre-sales in December, so basically any shop can do whatever it likes despite the law, which here in Italy is like a net with very large holes

The UK definitely doesn't have laws when sales can start. The tradition here is that the high street sales starts on December the 26th but nothing stopping sales starting early which happens all the time.
I think if you have a website that sells internationally, you're competing internationally as well, consumers can buy from all over the world, therefore to shut out a large portion of your customers from discounts you're offering you're more or less pushing them to go shop at the places that are offering sales worldwide.

Schucks, I am not sure that pissing off the customer is that strong of a deterrent. They will still buy when the stores go on sale in Europe. Everyone loves a bargain.Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months - Oscar Wilde

^miserableman - that's exactly what i pointed out to antonioli in an email. they were very nice in their reply to me (with a one-time discount offer) - nothing wrong with their customer service at least.
faust - actually, if i'm a regular somewhere (at retail prices) and then all of a sudden i feel really discriminated against, i kind of make a point out of taking my business elsewhere. i'm sure they will sell all their sales inventory, but it might put a small dent in regular sales a bit in the long run...
