recreating a carol christian poell ring

i'm studying to be a silversmith, decided to make my own version of a one-size-fits-all hinged ccp ring (can't afford the real thing) here are some of the stages (sorry about the instagram filters)

    what i'm attempting to make

    cutting strips

followed by sanding down sides and corners + drilling holes for rivets

    adding the hammered rivets

after these rivets were added I wrapped the piece around a mandrill to add the last 2

    Finished piece :

I'm happy with it, though it doesn't move that smoothly

Thinking of blackening it and sanding it down more after that to get the effect like that of the original

hello! fellow metal-head here. lovely effort on this piece. only concern is that the ends of your strips aren't fully rounded like the original - this will cause the angles to be "off" on the edges when stretched out to other sizes and won't look as clean.

any ideas why it isn't stretching smoothly? rivets too tight?

would definitely look great after oxidisation.

please share your other work soon! I get so excited to see other jeweller's work with similar influences :)

Looks great, also curious as to what metal you used, mainly wondering how it'd wear over time and feel

This is probably some of the best student work I've seen on here in quite some time. The bracelet is quite something and your recreation of the pantograph ring is pretty damn solid! Keep it up!

Wow super impressed with your chain bracelet too! Thanks for sharing :) One of my classmates is super into metal maille and I appreciate the time and labor that goes into the work of it so much more now after seeing him slave away over his own pieces.

thanks so much for all your supportive and positive feedback, it's so inspiring.

yeah i get a kick out of hammering away at something for hours, it's beautiful how something so small can have so much time, effort and thought put into it..

oh and yes the rivets are too tight! but that just means it takes quite a bit more effort to change it's size.

ahn i'd love to see some of your recent creations! pm me or post them!
