Thread: Weddings

    Default Weddings

Can't find any threads concerning this persnickety topic. Weddings are pervasive, whether we participate in them as guests, or as the main attraction. So I'm curious as to what are some SZ appropriate wedding outfits? What do you wear to them as a guest? What are some WTF worthy wedding gowns you've seen recently? Etc.

I recently got engaged, and the mainstream ideal of what a wedding and a bride should look like is incredibly repulsive to me. And the indie DIY kitschy ideas too, for that matter. I'm going to have a secular courthouse ceremony, followed by small reception with close family, so I'm personally not preoccupied with the whole white bride concept. Yet I'm still finding it really hard to decide what to wear. Most likely I'll do the deed wearing a vintage silk kimono with a wide Ann D belt and some Ann D boots.

But I would really love to wear this Ann dress if I could find it:

or in a fantasy world this Madame Gres:

Is black acceptable generally for small weddings, or are people still expected to do the traditional white look?

Depends... I noticed that in the summer people tend to wear either white or red. In the winter, perhaps if the banquet is in the evening, then i think black is ok.

I've this Ann Demeulemeester dress (here worn as a top) I wear whenever I have to go to a wedding.
It's simple, not too weird for the regular people. :)
I wear this with Rick Owens wedges.

And as a dream bride I would love these outfits

maybe we split the price and the one that marries first, wears it first!

I'm not sure I like these looks for a marriage, too dark / goth especially the dark red ones.

Maybe it's because I've been loving cream / white / beige hues lately, but I always think it's a bit sad when I see brides in dark colours. Also, I feel like vintage is better for a wedding dress, It's what I would recommend. Not the easiest option, but the most rewarding one I think.

If I were to choose a runway look, I would probaby go with Valentino

Or virtually any dress from one of my favourite couture collections ever by Givenchy

Although all this would only be fit for a very glamourous affair, and I much prefer simple, low-key things for myself

First post is pushing a wedding dress brand. Definitely spam.

PS: I think red or grey could be beautiful as wedding dresses.
Black also but it would be a black blot in the wedding pictures.

I wore a black and white dress with a black and white wrap. I think you can wear whatever you like. This year I love the RO Marella Dress.

OMG I love it. Please post pictures!

I originally clicked on this, because I do struggle a bit with what to wear to weddings (as a guest). My partner's brother just got engaged, and a friend of the family made a snarky comment about how I would just show up in black like always. I do have a Brunello Cucinelli dress in a lovely slate blue that I will likely wear, but I find that adapting my style to warm weather wear is tough in general (I just moved to Florida from Seattle, and I am struggling to adapt on several levels).

I've always loved Katie Schillingford's wedding dress by Gareth Pugh ... not something I would wear myself but the effect is so captivating
