I think I misrepresented myself. I didnt mean to say the movie was not to my liking, I just really enjoyed reading the book 1000x more than watching the movie. I feel that (as always) the book had much more depth (for obvious reasons) and more thoughtful character development.

That being said, I do have to admit that it was an excellent movie adaptation, and I agree that it is one of the best out there. The movie didnt dissapoint me like most movie adaptations do (except for the fact that they cut out some of my favorite scenes, and merged two characters into one.....again..for obvious reasons, amongst them being the constraints involved with making a film). I'm just glad I read the book long before I saw the movie.

Other than that, right now I'm looking to read a few more of Gibson's novels.
There's also this one trilogy that's always intrigued me; I will be sure to read it in the not so distant future.
    Its by Jack McDevitt

    Chindi
    Machines of God
    Omega

I dont know too much about the story, but what I did read sounds a bit interesting.

Fun read despite my extreme aversion to such topics/debates

                      finished -

                      Perfect Scent by burr
                      History of love by krauss
                      paradox of choice by schwartz

Kind of hated all three. I need to stop reading books my friends recommend.

Is Paradox of Choice really that bad? I've thought of including it in my Chaos Canon as an outsider's choice on human decision making and possibly for some lightweight economic psychology.

                        Would you care to elaborate?

Well, schwartz's main point beyond "there are too many choices to make good ones" is basically "learn to satisfice" (suffice+satify get it? /wrists)

He extols learning to except solutions/products that are good enough and warns about obsessing about finding "the best"

The book is thoroughly saturated with clinical studies and experiements demonstrating the difficulties humans face when trying to make consumer choices and while I don't really have a problem with suggesting people favor practical solutions over zealously chasing materialistic nirvana, I think that the pursuit of perfection/greatness is often noble, and that even those who are pretty obsessive, still function just fine because they pick and choose what they obsess about.

Maybe I'm just too anti-intellectual, but I really dislike reading about how everyone is living "wrong" especially when the proposed "fix" is "just chill"

I can't say I've liked any of the pop-econo-psych stuff (Blink, Tipping Point, Freakenomics, Black Swanetc) as it all feels extremely disingenuous.

^ recently read cooper's guide (thanks again aka for the recommendation!) and I know exactly what you mean. I've had a lot of experience with extreme material, but there's just something about cooper's writing... extremely visceral and disturbing stuff.
