Re: The work of Helmut Lang

I remember discussing this on tFS with droogist and others. Pretty sure the different colored labels don't signify anything - they are done to match the color of the clothes.

I agree, there needs to be more pix here. I'll dig some up.

Pardon my ignorance, but why did he stop designing? Did he just take the money and run? Has he ever said anything about returning? The images in this thread are amazing.

many thanks for reviving this thread, hope it gets filled up with stuff from the archives soon.

i miss helmut lang, and i also very much miss his New York boutique...during his peak i was much too young to appreciate what was going on in there, only thing i still have from that era is that green army jacket from 98 you guys probably saw in my recent WAYWTs, my parents bought me that when I was 14 since they saw that i loved it so much but wasn't able to wear any of the other stuff since it was a bit mature. One of the fond memories of my childhood was going to that store. Still remember the first time i went in i had no clue about fashion and couldn't even figure out which was the mens section and which was the womens, thats what i love about lang looking back haha

Ousted by Prada, just like Jil Sander was.

I remember his line was carried here in Boston when Ifirst moved here..I was much too young to buy any clothing, but damn, he certainly had the BEST menswear accessories...I wonder if I can still find those handcuff-bracelets anywhere..

Re: The work of Helmut Lang

This thread reminds me of the days when I knew nothing about fashion and started reading this article somewhere describing the current (5~6 years ago) state of menswear and Helmut Lang. I was still a poor uni student back then with no means of acquiring any garments, but nevertheless I slowly started getting interested in the fashion scene with one of my closest friends being a fashion design student (who now ended up doing something completely unrelated) and her telling me how awesome Vivienne Westwood and John Galliano are and everything ;) Here are some Lang pics from my old HDD I found.

^^Those ads are great. I really liked Helmut's concept of fashion, or as he called his shows, a "Séance de Travail." It was almost like he was working on a lifelong art project.

Well, I would bet that Helmut took them upstairs from the NYC store. He still has the office there, apparently!
