Fall-Winter 2001 (this was a bit of a brake through season where she did the leather leggings that became one of her signature items, and where she used wool with steel, you can see the slight wrinkle in the white coats).

Thanks. Please post if you have more images. I love Ann's work, but I've never seen it this far back.

            Ann Demeulemeester

Well, it's probably no surprise that Ann Demeulemeester is my favorite designer and I know that she's a favorite among many members on SZ, so I wanted to start a thread about Ann, her designs, her jewelry, influences, that isn't for a specific season. Post your Ann Demeulemeester news, thoughts, images here!

I know that Ann Demeulemeester isn't into promoting who wears her clothing but as a huge P J Harvey fan, I was super excited when I heard that Demeulemeester is doing the clothing for Polly's new album and forthcoming tour (including her band).

Polly was recently on the Andrew Marr for an interview and performance and she was wearing head to toe Ann, including some of the new feather pieces.

Somehow I figured we already had an Ann thread, but couldn't find one. May I suggest we keep the thread more focused on her work itself, rather than who wears it..

"I want to put a soul in a garment. I don't want my
clothes to be perfect, because human beings are not perfect. You can meet somebody in one of my jackets and it can all look a bit wrong, but also human and beautiful. Cutting nonchalance into a garment is difficult, because you can't just make an oversized or an asymmetric garment ? it will look ugly. Making it look natural is delicate work. If it's too obvious, then it looks fake. Balancing the garment is a painstaking task, because you have to keep in mind how the clothes move."

let us raise a toast to ancient cotton, rotten voile, gloomy silk, slick carf, decayed goat, inflamed ram, sooty nelton, stifling silk, lazy sheep, bone-dry broad & skinny baffalo.

In general I agree with this, but since Ann Demeulemeester has used P J Harvey's music on her runway and as inspiration I thought it was merited.

PJ and Ann are friends. Funny anecdote, Ann got me into PJ Harvey's music, haha.

Anyway, I once started a thread about the history of Ann's work, maybe it's better to merge the two?

That's a nice way to be introduced. I think Ann has been using Polly's music on the runway for a very long time.

I'm dying to hear the PJ mix she did for the women's show a couple seasons ago.

I don't mind merging but what about "the future of Ann's work" topics?

The first time I had a real conversation with Polly (in '95) it was about Ann Demeulemeester. Specifically, the "banana" heel boot and leather coats. I'm so excited about seeing what Polly and her band are going to look like on stage dressed in Demeulemeester.

So besides Atelier, IF, Jeffrey and Barneys who else carries Demeulemeester men's line in or near New York?

Ever since I saw this picture of Patrick Wolf years ago, I've fantasized about feathers on men's clothing... I could never ever pull it off though, which is disappointing.
