    bumping this -

anyone have tips for DIY leather dyes or kits? looking to dye a grey leather jacket black

or is it significantly better to have it professionally done?

      Re: dyeing leather

friend dyes lots of stuff black. its not that easy and requires lots of tests to get things close to where you want them. i would say professionally if you care about the jacket

I think Tarrago dye is pretty good for leather. I know girls that have dyed their balenciaga bags from a light to a darker color and the result is pretty amazing, especially since the appeal of these bags is the thin, soft leather to begin with.
it seems to absorb the dye with no hardening/stiffening.

This isn't the right place for my question, but don't want to start another. Anyone know of a product or way to remove stains (i.e. lipstick) from reverse leather?

Ooooh, DHC is in trouble!!! I use Lexol leather cleaner, but I don't remember if it works on suede.

Try makeup remover...it might be more gentle than the other stuff?

depends on the make up remover. some have a ton of oil... you could also try a non oil based lotion. it works quite well in removing make up. put a little on a Qtip and then apply and then use a clean towel to press it off...

I would try a gentle paint thinner suited for oil paint as lipstick isn't that far away (as far as I know anyways).

couldn't say I've used it on reverse leather but I've gotten oil paint out of everything else with little to no problems

thanks for the input everyone. Unfortunately the Lexol didn't work for me. I use turpentine to clean my brushes and I think that it'll damage the leather. And "chemically clean cleaning gasoline"..I don't even know where to begin looking for that, but thanks anyways heirloom.

I just realized I have a bunch of scrap pieces of leather laying around

I'll find some lipstick and see what works best tonight

edit: turpentine and the other odorless paint thinner totally blackened the leather, even moreso than just water.

                              bumping this,
i've got a large weekender type bag that is a sort of brown/beige/grey colour.. it's a bit shiny? looks like it's possibly coated.. how would i dye this? been looking at those other dyes.. is it just a case of brushing the dye on with several coats?
is there a way to object dye it?

                                Dyeing Leather

Hey, wondering if anyone here has any experience dyeing leather. I've seen sow how-to stuff from bing aka google. There's a really nice leather jacket I want to get but...it's brown. want to dye it black. is this something worth trying out or maybe hold off until i can maybe find it in black? thanks.
