Thanks Cas, this is all so awesome.

It's interesting that although Yohji is the master of black, he can also surprise us and use colors quite effectively.

the 'colors' shown in this collection are signatures of his, pieces pop up in the same tones regularly throughout his womenswear seasons. Like that tan colored sleeveless blazer/dress was done in a wrinkled leather shirt jacket just last winter.

I'm not sure why you wrote colors like that.

First off, I apologize for not remembering past collections. Cas is right, compared the last few collections there is more color use, regardless if it's the same colors or not.

I wasn't saying that I'm surprised Yohji used color. My point was how well he can insert a color piece into an all black outfit and really make it work. His cuts and tailoring allow the colored pieces to really work much better than a more traditionally tailored piece.

    For example:

If you look at the model shown and the model in the background, the black has the illusion of "seeping out" of the black.

Thanks Laika! Really wanted to see these up close.

Anyone have a close up of this one as well?

^It's the grown up school girl effect, with the capelet and beret, paired with the slouchy trousers and chunky boots....absolute perfection. [64]

I love that one you posted with overlaid houndstooth skirt, but I haven't seen any detail shots yet. Faust might be able to help out. [51]

I'd love to see a detail shot of the breast pockets on this one as well. Faust, please help! TIA And thanks again Laika.

The working of the leather is magnificent! I have got to see this in person. Man, I am so completely enamored by this collection.

                Those detail shots are great!

I went looking through the F/W 08/09 menswear again after seeing this and it just doesn't hit me like this collection does. Ah well.....

my apologies if the quotations in 'colors' came off in a rude way, did not mean anything by it as i was just referencing that point in your post.

looking at the close up shots, this is even better. Love what he's done with leather as well as playing around with silhouettes and textures. Solid collection, much better than the monogram fest of last winter anyway.

DHC- Thanks for posting those! The back of that black coat with one side leather is just so amazing. I don't know why, but it just struck something in me right away.

As far as my own aesthetic goes, I'd love to see this piece for men / possibly give this one a shot. This piece / image is the perfect balance between the now-dubbed "Arte Povera" designers of SZ and the tailored futurism of Simons et all that I think is one of the most prominent "holes" in todays fashion design world. There are occasionally individual pieces that strike me as crossing the line, but so far no one has devoted themselves to the idea.

I'll gather my thoughts more, but this piece in particular struck so quickly that I can't help but comment.

Definitely one of the strongest collections this season for women, alongside Jil Sander.

                            Cas, I'll echo your sentiments!

The usage of constructed/raw hide edge integrated into the coat and layered over constructed fabric is fucking beautiful. THAT'S some seriously perfect execution.
