washed and hand waxed cotton/linen, made pretty much from scratch. still missing button(s), not sure yet what I'll do but maybe a silver hook or something along those lines.

a long-ass time, hence the name

I think it took about 3 half days to make it, and the waxing took a few hours.

                that's actually not too bad!

Did you get a shirt pattern? Or did you utilize an existing shirt and build the measurements/pattern from that?

Either way it came out solid. Can't wait to see you wearing it!

                    Great stuff, A!

Would love to see how you did it.

Now you've got me wondering what you'll use that leather for...!

I based the pattern on an existing shirt

hmm ok some info.. started with just a crapload of sewing. I waxed it with beeswax and paraffin, which pretty much make up basic candles, but are used in wax coating as well. I applied the mixture in a concrete form by rubbing it on, its liquid when hot but when it dries it looks like a piece of soap.

heres how it looks when rubbed onto the fabric:

then I heated it, so the wax is absorbed into the fabric. with a little more heat, it would actually become completely invisible but waterproof, which is pretty neat. thats how I believe it works on some outdoor type gear thats waxed as well.

how did you heat it? In an oven or with a blow dryer or something? And whats the exact recipe for the wax coating? 50/50 beeswax/paraffin or something else. Brands would help too =]

edit: from my understanding you bought a bar that has beeswax and paraffin in it right. If that's the case my questions would be how much did you rub on, how long and how did you heat and do they bleed at all?

my recipe was roughly 50/50, I melted and mixed a bar of paraffin and beeswax because a local sporting goods store didn't have the original thing in stock. you can probably find both at some hobby story, I know snowboarders sometimes use paraffin on their boards and both are used in making candles. but yea, you can also buy ready made bars that are meant for fabric coating.

I heated it with a hairdryer, it melts at a pretty low temperature actually so its fairly easy and you can touch the fabric without burning yourself.
