Stone Island opened its first flagship store on Greene street in SoHo ten years ago. Today, it is celebrating a decade in New York City by relocating it one block up to number 70. The new shop is the latest in the brand’s new retail concept developed by AMO, the offshoot of OMA, Rem Koolhaas’s venerable architecture firm.
The space is slim and deep and has all the touches that AMO’s director Samir Bantal developed for the new concept; the materiality of the interior in cork, blasted sand, polished steel, and stained wood reflects Stone Island’s industrial approach to design. At the end of the main floor a staircase leads to a downstairs room complete with a full DJ setup and a sound system by Friendly Pressure that feature speakers by OJAS, Devon Turnbull. LED screens throughout the store add to the modern touches to the new space.”
