Each season there is a special guest at Pitti Imagine menswear week doing something (last year it was Rick Owens, Raf Simons before him). This season KvA is doing an installation there. Here is a small blurb from Pitti website.
KRIS VAN ASSCHE AT PITTI UOMO JANUARY 2007
Passionate about a vision of a man who takes the time to "dress up," Kris Van Assche pursues a masculinity infused with poetry and authenticity.
Balancing a nostalgic historical sense with radical modernism, he has created a distinctive, refined style of nonchalant elegance.
Van Assche?s work is characterized by attention to detail and his designs arise from a sophisticated approach that breaks away from the uniformization of sportswear.
Van Assche?s contribution to Pitti Uomo, 2007, an installation to be presented at ?Le Pagliere? on January 11, reflects this vision of elegance.
Says Van Assche ?I am extremely flattered to be invited by Pitti Imagine.
It is an institution and an event that I greatly admire. Pitti gives
me the opportunity to interpret my esthetic in a new context and in a
unique environment. The installation, of which the details will remain
secret until its opening, reflects the starting point for all my
collections; A certain nostalgia for the elegance that got lost somewhere along the way,
an elegance that is appreciated whenever one gets the opportunity to
witness it. I start from there, and than mix in elements from today?s
reality. Nostalgic and contemporary seem such opposites, but to me, they are essential and something to aspire to. My installation captures an interpretation of elegance in a contemporary way.?
Kris Van Assche was born in Londerzeel, Belgium in 1976. A graduate from the Antwerp Royal Academy of Fine Arts , he worked as a design assistant at Yves Saint Laurent Homme and Dior Homme, before launching a men?s collections in his own name in January 2005. His collections are presented during the men?s ready-to-wear collections in Paris.
