Is it honestly true that Rick's tailored pieces are nowadays produced by Brioni (as I read from the first page of this thread)?
Seems unnatural, looking at the formal business wear Brioni is producing. Guess it's still Olmar&Mirta holding strong

I doubt it; he would need a factory for that which means a lot of $$$, employees and producing for others. He's not Zegna so unless him and his, what, 2 employees make everything by hand in their basement I just don't see it. They're not a tailoring shop.Selling CCP, Harnden, Raf, Rick etc.

^That's what a high Euro and the need to expand a brand while covering the bottom line does to you. I remember back 8-9 years ago Miuccia Prada talking about how "she couldn't imagine producing ANYTHING outside of Italy" because she liked to support her local industries.
Now, it's tough to find something Prada that is actually MADE in Italy. Vietnam, China, Bulgaria, Romania, Tunisia, Turkey, etc...
As well, the dynamic is changing and many factories around the world are getting much better with quality control, production, etc. so "made in Italy" doesn't necessarily mean anything close to what it used to mean in terms of exclusivity in SOME areas. For example, if you ask my Grandma, "made in Japan" has the same connotations as what we think of as "made in macau" or "made in Vietnam" today. BUT, for those of us who are younger, we know Japan to make some of the best stuff around. Markets, economic concerns and demands, and need for profitability change the dynamic in good... and bad... ways.
In any case, looking at my OP from over two years ago, it's interesting to wonder if the global crunch will require some brands who have amassed enormous debt in expanding FURTHER to cutback or move downmarket in terms of their production.Last edited by rach2jlc; 11-19-2008, 10:40 AM.

Most french workers couldn't assemble a decent garment if their lives depended on it. Chinese and North African workers living in France on the other hand...
There's also a lot of Chinese workers in Italian factories. It's all about QC, training and optimixed production so I have a feeling distinctions will slowly erode and we'll only compare factories to factories, not country to country.Selling CCP, Harnden, Raf, Rick etc.
