Nevermind Moon. Forget 2001. Solaris was tainted by Clooney's ugly mug (and whoever agreed to the remake should be pilloried).

I'm probably 1 of a very small set of foolios who absolutely love the Solaris remake.

before you make that assessment, which is of couse a valid one to make, you should have a look at white material first.

White Material was the the highlight for me at Toronto last year. really really strong film. best Denis film.

Yes, but don't you find a meaningful statement therein, that politics for the viewer and voter has become so intricatly mazed and impossible to overview?

yeah it worked for what it was doing. i thought it was a good film, just not a great one.

It's Korean, but I share the sentiment anyway. Chan peaked with Old Boy, have a hard time seeing him recapture that pitch.

Just got back from Iron Man 2. Great acting from RDJ and Sam damn well rocked but Mickey Rourke stole the show.

Finally caught Werner Herzog's remake of Bad Lieutenant...from first few minutes onwards it clearly sets a tone that lacks the dangerous potency of Ferrara's original, but it's a lot less serious towards its subject as well. Enjoyable as a sleazy 2-hour autopilot romp.

i watched some of the new criterions recently:

dillinger is dead - i enjoyed this more than i was expecting. yes, it may be another one of those experimental movies from the '60's, but it wasn't nearly as tedious as people described and works as a great time capsule. you begin to expect what's going to happen at the end of the movie as you go along though which ruins the whole dramatic flair of it. i suppose this type of thing was more uncommon/shocking back then, but it doesn't even raise an eye in this day and age when family murder/suicides are a common response to recessions.


make way for tomorrow - a nice little sentimental classic from the golden age of hollywood. more for cinema purists i suppose as the message is delivered in a very heavy-handed manner as most things from the time.
