Anotehr blast from the past? I've always liked Kenzo, loved the prints, the silhouettes, the price points. I think he sold his original company a while ago. I am not too crazy about this collection, but some pieces are cool.

A Second Awakening: The Resurrection of Kenzo Takada

After
nearly seven years out of the fashion limelight, Kenzo Takada emerged
with a new collection, new creative ventures and a new outlook on
fashion.
"This time around, it's about l'art de vivre," said Takada
to Fashion Wire Daily over a cup of tea at the Takashimaya restaurant
in New York on Thursday, October 28th. While the designer made good use
of his creative hiatus traveling the world and working on various side
projects, "there was something missing," he said. "I missed fashion."
Takada made his reentrance into fashion official with Takada, a
line of women's Spring/Summer 2007 ready-to-wear that seamlessly blends
the designer's Japanese-inspired aesthetic with clean and modern
silhouettes.
Working with a mixture of bold prints and a rich palette of ebony,
red, blue, green and bronze, the collection plays with the many
permutations of volume. Rouched sleeves and an accordion collar give
dimension to a voluminous opera coat in black silk taffeta, while a
short hemline and puffed sleeves give a unique and fresh twist on the
classic camel trench. A series of ephemeral summer dresses in light
blue organdy and a starfish printed bikini was in tune with the
designer's reputation for incorporating fun and colorful prints.
Rounding out the collection is a beautifully draped kimono dress in
red Moroccan crepe, which worked well against a western-style pant suit
in wool crepe with navy stripes.
The innovative ways in which Takada applied the East-meets-West
concept is what first catapulted the designer into fashion stardom, and
it is precisely what continues to drive his career today.
"Fashion is the collective product of Asia, Europe and America,"
said Takada. Moving forward with his global outlook, Takada hopes that
his latest collection of Takada line of womenswear will soon manifest
itself into a full-blown lifestyle brand that encompasses all of the
five senses.
In the meantime, Takada is keeping himself busy with multiple
collaborative projects, including an exclusive series of crystalware
for Baccarat and designing a line of scarves with Ratti, an Italian
luxury textile company. Despite having multiple partnerships in the
works and a wealth of experience in the field, Takada approaches his
second venture into fashion with caution and humility.
"I consider myself to be a beginner," he claimed. "And the biggest
challenge for any designer is the ability to keep their identity. It
takes more than just a creative mind to reach success; you also need to
balance it with business sensibility."
With such words of wisdom and the fact that items from his latest
ready-to-wear collection are flying off the racks at Takashimaya, it's
clear that the fashion world has already embraced his reemergence with
open arms and anticipate what's to come from this prolific designer.
