rima hyena is a designer based out of austin, texas.
though i'm posting in the "women's jewelry" thread, most of her work is unisex.
she hand casts in bronze and sterling silver, often working with mythological and alchemic themes, as well as symbols that draw from her own personal experiences and nature.
these iphone photos do not do the pieces justice but give an idea of her style...(and this is just a very small sample of the range of her work !). here i have a cast bronze pelvis (it functions as a ring but i've also seen it as part of a necklace), a bronze barn rat skull on a silver 30in cable chain, and an anatomical heart charm (my personal favorite).
she also makes her own chains. here i'm wearing 2 of her chains (one 24in curb with one of the anatomical heart charms, one 30in curb with my own ring), both oxidized silver. i apologize for the poor photo quality, i'll try to replace with a better one soon.

It seems that there's been a bit of a renaissance with bone/skull/occult inspired jewellery... interesting how different jewellers interpret the themes!
One of my favourite occult themed jewellers is a local artist, Julia Deville. She is also a qualified taxidermist (and staunch vegan so all the animals she works with died by natural causes).
Julia also does a lot of Memento Mori jewellery. Her work is ingrained with a soft femininity that really appeals to me.
I've often thought about including some of these themes in my own jewellery but I don't think at this time I could do it in my own voice.
some do it fast, some do it better in smaller amounts.
i make most of the jewelry i wear (which also makes it that much harder to buy jewelry when you know the markup they put on pure cost/labor/values..but that's another story/businesses need to survive)
Thank you so much, Aurum! :D I managed to do the google thing, it's a nice trick...I'm sorry if you thought so, Faust, I can delete the post if you'd like
