Although Judd avoided the label I can't really say it means anything different than any other minimalist piece. Industrial made, no traces of self-expression, lack of "noble" materials and purity of form. I like that it resists interpretation or narrative and is just an object that you either accept or reject in full. Minimalism is also typically American and, to me, marks the maturity of the USA as a country that can produce art works independant of European influence. To be frank I like it because I find it pleasing to the eye...

Fuuma, I will go ahead and reject it, if you allow me :-) Although I wonder if in person these make a different impression. I gotta get my ass up to Beacon. SZ field trip anyone?

Yeah you gotta see it in person, this one is in the Tate but MoMA has many Judd pieces, if you're lucky they might even have plenty on display. Nearer than Beacon, no?

As for the rejection, well, what is interesting is that it's not a sum of parts but an object only aprehended in it's totality; you'll rarely see people saying they only like part "x" of it and that's an interesting thing to ponder compared to say impressionism where it is frequent.

              Or even easier, Brancusi:

You'd almost believe one of the creatures would bend and whisper in your ear in an indecipherable language...

I don't know - religion freaks me out. How about some Max Ernst illustrations?

I'm down with Brancusi, that's for sure. Still looking for a reproduction of The Bird.
