A Few months ago, I had started a process of going through the products we create, and writing an explanation of them in order to give an insight into the conceptual framework that underpins the garments we make here at Zam Barrett Dialogue. After having a discussion with a client, who had a pair of our pants he loved and wanted to order a second pair, this issue resurfaced because he had thrown the labels away and could not tell me the name of the exact model of the pants.
I realized how important it is to continue this project. While we appreciate you all support, it is important for us to know, that you know the ideas that give life to the products you buy. I feel this will give a greater appreciation for the products, and after all, that's all we hope for.

Jeans has become an important part of the modern wardrobe, an inescapable fact, with us living in a dress down society, where ease, comfort and practicality has taken preeminence in the way we dress.
I wanted to create a jean, that was not really a jean, that is to say, it would serve the same purpose, but would look and feel differently from the traditional five pocket, double topstiched jean made by everyone else.

Cotton canvas was chosen because it had to be durable and able to last and wear the same way a heavy denim fabric would. The next step was to strip away all the unnecessary components to give the pants a more tailored look while keeping the "rough hewn" artisanal spirit we want our garments to have.
In the design process we removed all the topstiching. we eliminated the side seams and rotated them to the back of the pants to form a seam enclosing the rear pocket. the pockets are to the back of the pants "internally" the same way patch pockets on a tailored sport coat would be. We cut the back yoke and the front pocket facing from a single piece of fabric (a feat that gives a nice detail, but give the sewers a fit to construct!)

The waistband of the pants is cut from two pieces of fabric, with the internal facing being bound by the same fabric used for the pocket lining. This way we can shape the waistband to ultimately mold to the contours of the wearers body over time........something that most jeans made with a single piece waistband do not do.
the original sideseam that was rotated to the back above the knees, was brought back to the side of the pants and reshaped to create a very subtle J shape that gives the nice soft stacking of the pants below the knees, that many wearers appreciate..........
So in a way, all the design components of the pants, exist because they serve a functional as well as an aesthetic purpose, nothing exist for the sake of pure embellishment or adornment, but is there because of its function. hence the name.....Minimalist J Jean

you are kind of correct!
actually the original metal loop was supposed to be something you could use to hang the pants from a nail, r a coat rack or something like that. it was supposed to be something that was not a permanent feature of the pants in wearing, but in hanging. however we did not like the results and the idea was discussed to make it into one of the pant loops instead.

In the original design of the pants.........as shown here:


there was no fabric covering loop on the back....it was out of discussions with a member here who wanted to purchase a pair of the pant, and his concern that the rough hewn nature of metal loop might be abrasive to delicate tops, that we designed the back fabric loop so that you can wear the pants with the metal loop exposed or covered, based on your personal choice.
