Since I finally registered I may as well introduce myself. I'm 24 years old and I live in Paris, I work in a small management consulting firm which has no link whatsoever with the fashion business or anything related. I've been interested in clothing, fashion and costume history for as far as I can remember. My mother used to be a fashion designer, I grew up surrounded with old fashion magazines, drawings, books on the subject, the sound of the sewing machine, and sketches and fabrics pinned on giant pannels to be presented in fashion exhibitions. My interest varied over time, at some point I started associating it with some kind of shallowness, but it re-developped a few years ago.

I am very interested in vintage clothing, both male and female, as a parallel to the evolution of society, behaviours and archetypes, my period of choice being between the Victorian era and the early 60s. I concentrate mainly on Western clothing, but I recently started to pay interest to Japanese costume history, being interested in Japanese arts and culture in general. Iconic designers I particularly like would be Yohji Yamamoto, Vivienne Westwood, Azzedine Alaïa. As for more contemporary designers, my favourite would be Ann Demeulemeester, hands down. I also like early Margiela, Hussein Chalayan, Alexander McQueen, Haider Ackermann, part of Marni's deisgns for their structure and irony, Jil Sander's cleaniness. I find a lot interest in Undercover, CCP, Rei Kawabuko and Junya Watanabe, although I often can't relate to their designs (but I do love some CdG sometimes). As for menswear, apart from those quoted above, my interest in it is still very recent and I enjoy learning about designers everyday.

I like clean silhouettes with subtle details - texture contrasts, asymetry; research on volume, androgynous looks, subdued romanticism, contrast between military-like rigour and delicate frivolity. I don't necessarily dress these ways, I like to put a lot of irony in the way I dress.
I've been lurking around here for a while, I hesitated before registering since I'm not sure of how I can contribute, being neither a specialist on any topic or a professionnal. I hope my curiosity and personnal references will be enough. And I apologize for my English, it's a bit rusty.

And, I guess that'll be all.
Welcome ronin, I think you'll be right at home here. And your English is absolutely fine.

          hi

          Hi SZ,

I'm graydot. I'm a 25 year old resident doctor living in canada. I've been interested in clothing for as long as I can remember, and still know almost nothing about fashion. I've been browsing SZ for about a year now, and just recently decided to register. I previously thought of an outfit as simply the silhouette - SZ has taught me much about texture, proportion, volume etc.

I find the style of Lowrey inspirational - no homo. I wish I had the wherewithal to put ensembles together like the majority of frequent posters on this forum. My uniform is essentially damir t's, rick owens blistered two-tone, and attachment or drkshdw denim. My contributions here might therefore be somewhat meaningless.

Anyways, I look forward to posting and learning a thing or two in the process.

              hi.

have lurked around here for quite some time. figured i'd start contributing a bit. have found some amazing information, resources, and overall style inspiration and ideas from the site. i'm 24, just graduated from a school in san diego, ca. have been doing a bunch of interviews in ny, so it appears as though i may be relocating sooner than later. my style is mainly consistent of older hedi dh pieces(i know that's not the aesthetic of most here), but since his departure i've been mixing in pieces from augusta, rick, ann and the others.

thanks for reading, and look forward to speaking with you all.

                          Hello everyone!
I just turned 21, live in Austria and already know what I’ll be doing with the money I earn in 2010. I don’t know how far I can go as to say what my favorite labels are, without having ever touched or worn them (with the exception of a waistcoat by DD I just got), but I really like Julius, Damir Doma and Boris Bidjan Saberi.

First off, a little story of how I ended up here.
About 1 year ago I started to get interested in fashion and the clothing that I wear. So I began goggling fashion sites for men and came across men.style.com during my searches. There I went through several articles until I came upon a very significant one. It went something like this: “5 up and coming designers you should know about”, and featured designers like Odyn Vovk, Rick Owens and Julius.

I had been watching some Naruto (yes Anime, and yup I watch it in Japanese with subs :P ), so when I saw this Julius hi-neck t-shirt I was like “What? Clothing like that actually exists?!”, and I fell in love right there on the spot!

After some searches for Julius I came across a site called scoute.org … From there it was only a few clicks until I landed here. And I’m glad I did :D
So I’ve been lurking here for about half a year now, checking the site almost daily and reading/looking through hundreds of pages. Also strange things have started to happen, like for example I can look at someone’s picture and within seconds I’m like “CCP jacket, Ann D vest …”, or the other day I was on the freeway and I see a license plate that starts with RO … I think you all know what I thought of at that moment xD

I hope to be part of many interesting discussions here and develop my personal style.
Thanks for reading, and oh before I forget, I can have a strange sense of humor, so don’t always take what I say to serious :D
