^shouldn't be a problem. they don't have a no camera rule, just no flash, which is understandable.

unfortunately no, but only because I've never been to chicago. one of my closest friends recently moved there and sent me full photo documentation of an alinea meal as bait to get me to visit. it almost worked.

Albert, the Alinea cookbook is available now at amazon. looks good and its cheap... compared to Blumenthal's fat duck cookbook, list price: 250usd, preorder price: 157.50usd.

I keep hearing that it's amazing, but such ridiculous food porn that it makes the French Laundry cookbook look not just approachable, but downright easy.

Thanks for the heads up Diego!

After you posted your preorder of it on here a few weeks back I promptly ordered it myself through Alinea's page since Achatz and his team sign all copies bought there and you get insta-access to Alinea's Mosaic page where they have a forum, recipes, instructional/food porn videos. I plan on ordering a lot of the stuff for this (short of the temperature regulator bath for sous vide) recipe book to make fun dishes with. With just the ISI Whip you can do all sorts of crazy shit.

              Gotta love it!!

Just told Joey how envious I was of his upcoming Alinea trip.

hehehe, did you order it through them Diego?

It's only $50... worth the reorder for all the extra little things you know?

reminds me... I should read up on how Chef Achatz is doing with his tongue cancer (ie- proof that there is no god when a young top chef gets an oral cancer for no good reason).

I did but I'll check the page later today. I had in mind a couple of the crucial detail items so maybe I'll place an order. Damn, didn't know about Achatz's cancer but just checked and he announced on 2007 that he was cancer-free :)

                      Word.
                      Oh really?
That is AWESOME! He took a big gamble by opting for chemo only instead of having the surgeons cut part of the cancer out. I'm really glad it worked out for him.

                        or, for a real master:

went on a pilgrimage to the restaurant a few years back. easily the best meal of my life.

EDIT: oops, didn't see the cancer talk which immediately precedes this. kind of a tasteless follow-up (har har). but seriously...

Great new yorker profile of Chef Achatz and his struggle here: http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2...urrentPage=all

I usually try to buy only cookbooks that i'll use frequently, but this one was too beautiful to resist.
