Just wanted to give a shout out to a few of the folks doing some amazing things in Vancouver.
At the Peanut Gallery last night - thankfully there was a Metronomy show a few blocks away that pulled a good chunk of the hipsters away. Not often that it happens, but really great venue, good people, amazing music. They were throwing a going away party for Luka from Basketball, who's moving to Barcelona to regroup with his bandmates.
No Gold (they're a lot better live)
Basketball (no music online) - these guys made the summer of 2008 in Vancouver. Serious music heavy weights. Picked up the Secret Mommy/Basketball 7" last night, and it's worth the money. (If anyone is interested I'll see if I can procure some copies. It's amazing stuff, Secret Mommy's track is an ode to Basketball/Summer '08, and a spastic-electro-percussion jam by Basketball on the other side)
Given the amount of shit I talk about this city it's about time I started giving it some dues. There's some seriously great things happening here. From time to time, at least. When they're not shutting down all the venues and persecuting creativity.Originally posted by merzperhaps one day pipcleo will post a wywt so non-euclydian & eldrich in its shapes as to turn all onlookers into throngs of dishevelled, muttering idiots

I'm going to see Antony and the Johnsons tomorrow here in Columbus. I used to see him all the time at Think Coffee near NYU, I wonder if he remembers me
