I did a double-take when I saw that in the Village Voice. Made me cringe a little. J&R for fuck's sake.

Artscape (USA's largest art festival) is happening about 2 blocks from my building. It is a lot of fun and i'm particularly exciting that Matisyahu is headlining this year.

We're taking more time to collaborate on a bold new vision for America's largest free arts festival.

There has been an AMAZING series of concerts of Feldman's music going on in Philadelphia. I would go to every single one if I lived there but it's about a 90 minute drive for me. I went last Saturday and will be going this Saturday for Crippled Symmetry (one of my faves). The grand 6 hour string quartet is being played Sunday!!!

Ion Studio, 41 Wooster Street, New York

Book on sale for $40, First Edition of 2000 Copies

                      About the Exhibition and Book

This exhibition accompanies the first book release from Erik Madigan Heck, entitled, “January to August”- a compilation of eight new bodies of work created by Heck during the corresponding months of 2011. The book is designed as an anthology of these eight different series, including their original artist book covers, serving as an encyclopedia of all bodies of work made throughout the year. The different chapters span personal documentary work from the artist’s childhood, “Chisholm, Minnesota”, to the acclaimed fashion series, “Mary Katrantzou”, made for the young British fashion designer. Other chapters include the ongoing “Artist As Muse” series, which comprises portraits of contemporary artists such as Lawrence Weiner, Gabriel Orozco, and Kiki Smith, merged with fashion by Ann Demeulemeester, Dries Van Noten, and Comme des Garcons. “January to August” also includes the new landscape series, “A Return to Giverny” and Heck’s recent German works, “Tremblant Vielfache”. The exhibition serves to showcase a broad range of this young artist’s work from 2011, and is on view until late November.

                      About the Artist

The American artist Erik Madigan Heck, born in Excelsior in 1983, is known for having a distinctive visual style, which merges a rich understanding of art history, varied photographic techniques, and an experimental approach to motion picture studies. Heck is also the founding editor of the New York art journal Nomenus Quarterly, where he frequently collaborates directly with some of the world’s most influential artists, fashion designers, and institutions to create his own hybrid approach to the printed magazine. Erik Madigan Heck earned his MFA from Parsons School of Design in New York and his BA in Political Science from Salve Regina University.
