Matt - Been meaning to comment on your stealthy subway snapshots for a while now. It takes some serious trepidation to pull out a camera in such close proximity to strangers (and in a confined, can't-run-anywhere space, no less) to capture such moments. It's hard for me to do that, and I've missed loads of great opportunities because of it.
I had an ex who could do it without a modicum of self-consciousness. I never understood that, though seeing the kinds of images it rewarded him with made the case for putting personal reservation aside, every time. But then, he's also a pro photog, so I guess in that regard it's worth the risk of a black eye or having your camera broken – both of which he's had happen.
The only subway picture I've ever taken was of a dude who fell asleep on the L train a while back. I was coming back into the city from Brooklyn around 1am, and noticed he didn't appear to have a head, lol. Well, of course who could pass that up, so I took a quickie and ended up with this:
