cherry blossoms on a moonlit night.
there is a traditional custom to enjoy the bewitchment of the blossoms at night.
so it was illuminated with bonfire since electric lights would not be easily available those days (1932).
it's so scarily beautiful with the pale pink that it is sometimes said to be absorbing human blood from around the root. also there are not a few legends about cherry blossoms.
the tree in the pic below is about 1000 years old. some might see some kind of deity in it. many would personify it in some way or other at least.
in fact, when I see the blossoms in this great mass, I cannot help thinking the tree has its expression as if it had its will to blossom, which was different from just a simple physical-chemical drive.
I guess that's part of why cherry blossoms become a theme from time to time.
thank you for the beautiful explanation....I mean the ephemeral, the fugitive, the contingent, the half of art whose other half is the eternal and the immutable.

Does anyone know who this artist is?
it's the kid in the picture. I know this is one of his pieces and the only other thing I can remember is he had Jenny Holzer sign his arm and he has that for a tattoo. he lives in nyc if i remember correctly.
