Stumptown is amazing...straight up. I usually go once every week or two and pick up two bags to french press in the mornings. Amazing coffee paired with the interior of the Ace Hotel is enough to keep me coming back.

This might be sort of a stupid question, but I'm from Hawaii and have not experienced any kind of harsh winter weather.

Do I need to buy snow boots? Some people have told me I do, and others have told me that regular boots are fine. Others tell me that boots will get trashed by the salt/snow combination.

What do you all wear in the middle of the winter here?

Is "here" Los Angeles? I doubt you'll need any snow boots in LA. Especially since you'll be driving everywhere.

If you're in someplace like Chicago or NY the snow/salt/sludge will ruin leather shoes. Everyone there I saw was wearing rubber boots or Uggs (for whatever reason). You can also get those rubber shoe protectors or just wear a pair of shoes/boots that are already trashed.

Oh, I just realized this was the New York thread, so I guess you're talking about NY. Are you moving there (your profile says you're in LA)? The snow is probably gone until next fall/winter, so you'll have time to find a solution.
