was planning on going to Philly this Sunday, i might attend either Friday or Sunday (and ditch the Philly trip), especially we are looking for nice books/ magazines for the bookshelf here...........

Just realized one of the keynote speakers is my neighbor here at Zfactorie
“You know,” he says, with a resilient smile, “it is a hard world for poets.”

Yesterday I got in touch with a 2nd hand salesman who told me that apparently there should be some really good black 2nd hand stores in an area called "The Jewish Quarter" in NYC. Google is normally my best friend but not this time it seems. Can anyone tell if this is correct and if there is something I should be visiting somewhere around that area (I'm going to NYC next saturday and I can't wait!)?

                    Tonight in New York

Germany's Thomas Köner live at BAM - playing a live soundtrack to the classic silent film "The Ancient Law". This should be awesome and tickets are still available and cheap!

                    Later tonight

Swans come to NYC to blow the doors of The Bowery Ballroom! Bring your earplugs.

I will be in New York from the next Saturday (10/27) till the Sunday the week after (11/4), it’s going to be my first time in North America and I’m pretty excited about it!

I’m thinking of visiting few second hand-shops to find what I want (hopefully Yohji/CDG/Damir/etc) for a price I can afford. I saw INA, Tokio 7 and Fisch for the Hip mentioned earlier in this thread but I would like to know if somebody knows more shops that would suit my needs? Also, I don’t mind digging through products if the prices are lower (not-so-exclusive consignments and ”good” thrift shops are most welcome). As I will stay in Chelsea I prefer if the shops are on Manhattan or in Brooklyn.

And where should I go for the best burger of my life?

There is a fairly new branch of INA in Chelsea. Those are the three you want to go to. There are a few uptown but it's all old-lady gear. And you should go to GRAYMARKET, obviously.

Burger of your life is a tough call. I'd say Blue Ribbon Bakery or Union Square Cafe but there are better foodies on this board. The Ear Inn, around the corner from Atelier is a classic NY joint. I stay away from the hyped burger chains (Shake Shack) and places (Corner Bistro, Paul's, whatnot), but Bare Burger is always good for a quick lunch - organic meat, fresh ingredients, etc.

GRAYMARKET sounds like a really cool store, will definitely try to give it a visit. Do you know how the prices compare to the traditional retail prices?

You should try the burger at http://www.thespottedpig.com/. At least I'm going to next time I'm in New York.
