Faust 1, flu 0. I think I have super-duper immune system. My back still aches though - time for tiger balm and applicator kuznetsova.

At the market this morning, while I was asking for some apples and pears, an old lady standing next to me told me with a gentle smile :"You have a beautiful voice. Certainly you sing ?"

            Always nice to hear.

And I like to see that there still are people to compliment perfect strangers this way, very simply, matter-of-factly.
I can see a hat, I can see a cat,
I can see a man with a baseball bat.

That's sweet :-) I guess it's easier to do for old ladies. Many a time I feel like complementing a woman, but I feel like she's automatically thinking that I am a creep that wants to rape her. It's a sad state of affairs.

Same. The opposite-gender intention-behind-compliment (pretty much strictly from the female perspective) paranoia in Hong Kong/China is one of the most pervasively bizarre aspects of life here I've yet to fully understand.

There's an art to giving compliments in a non-threatening, nonchalant kind of way, and personally i quite enjoy it.
ex., on a crowded subway, the guy sitting next to me says, "excuse me, but you are absolutely ____."
I smile, nod, say thank you, and he offers me his bag of jujubes (eating candy is very non-threatening, somehow). I decline, he smiles, and gets off at the next stop. Fun for everyone and totally harmless.
...I mean the ephemeral, the fugitive, the contingent, the half of art whose other half is the eternal and the immutable.

oh, okay, no problem. the way you put it up made me think it was a part of a joke...

the person who bought my macabre cardigan says there were postal strikes going on in england at the moment. I'm kinda worried that the cardigan won't make it.... how long should I worry? he hasn't told me it has arrived yet which I told him to

I don't know FTB, it seems pretty simple to me:

start with the shoes - for example -

                              nice shoelaces, or

                              are those Ann Demeulemeester?
