MSG doesn't make you sweaty, that's in your head. There's been a bunch of research into MSG, and it all amounts to, err, sound and fury signifying nothing. Basically, MSG is in all kinds of foods we eat, and no experiment with a control group has been able to find any effect from MSG. Now, many people react to certain spicy foods, or have allergies to foods commonly cooked with MSG, but the MSG itself isn't the cause. There's a reasonable body of experimental results on this.

there was a lenghty discussion somewhere earlier, maybe this thread?
anyway, I suppose some could be hypersensitive to it which might explain some of the beliefs, but its mostly nonsense. I love my yakitori sauce"AVANT GUARDE HIGHEST FASHION. NOW NOW this is it people, these are the brands no one fucking knows and people are like WTF. they do everything by hand in their freaking secret basement and shit."

Ok, so bugs have decided to live in my closet. Thay are small (about the size of fruit flies) and light brown, and seem to have multiplied many fold while I was gone for Thanksgiving vacation. My questions are: does anyone know wtf these are?
If you do, are they eating my clothing?
Is there any way to get rid of them apart from calling the exterminator?
EDIT: So I'm told they could be fungus gnats, as others in the dormitory have the same problem. To my knowledge, gnats do not eat clothing, but how the hell did they get here in the first place?Last edited by Sombre; 11-30-2009, 07:12 PM.An artist is not paid for his labor, but for his vision. - James Whistler

There may be no solid evidence for why one should not consume it (although there was one study that suggested that MSG contributes to obesity), but there's also no evidence that says it's healthy. Even DDT was praised at one point.

I would recommend that you remove the clothing and any other damageable valuables until you fight out what they are...................
better to be safe than sorry.

Thanks Zamb, you make a good point. On that note, I think I'll take my suits and coats to the drycleaner as well.
On the bright side, I captured one in a jar, so tomorrow I'm going to find an insectology professor and get a positive ID on the critter.

Sorry about the persistent pain the butt (no pun intended). If it's just soreness though it's nothing to worry about, it will pass (eventually).
Congratulations on the new style of bag. I know you were working on the canvas version of the Polis, so this is all good news.An artist is not paid for his labor, but for his vision. - James Whistler
