I don't think the hole is there from the beginning, not in this form anyway. But, the construction along the seam is a bit odd, it looks thinner and more stretch then the rest of the garment.

No, you bought a $1200 sweater, and it's falling apart after minimal wear. That is intolerable. One problem is bad, but there will always be unforseeable problems. Two problems is absolutely unacceptable. I might contact the store that sold you the sweater about this.

it's not like it was ever going to stay less than $500 when it ended - why does it matter when it starts getting to the price it's going to end?

it's just stupid IMO. what may have ended at 1k or so is likely to reach ludicrous levels now. ebay is insane. a used rick tank top just sold for 100 — new, on sale, they are like 75.
