we are all consumers now, not creators. people used to want to make a meal worthy of photographing, now they want to photograph a meal worthy of eating. or retweet rather than say anything clever. people wait in line for hours to buy someone else's creation rather than create anything themselves.

I do agree, but how do you tell that ever growing number of photographers, that what they do is not creative, if you don't count making digital rubbish as creating?

I love that I have to read a New York paper to find out what's happening in Portland.

Poor kids. A big write-up in The Times and they're elegantly torn to shreds.

A Boris Bidjan Saberi collection inspired by this ep would be incredible (click to listen on soundcloud).
"He described this initial impetus as like discovering that they both were looking at the same intriguing specific tropical fish, with attempts to understand it leading to a huge ferocious formalism he characterizes as a shark that leapt out of the tank."

                      this is too good:
The images are accompanied by essays that extol the virtues of “slow living”; in other words, doing things that Laura Ingalls Wilder and Tom Sawyer once considered chores, like whitewashing fences, harvesting berries, shucking and boiling corn and dying and sewing one’s own clothes. Call it Prairie Porn .
on a kinder note I should also reference the Do you find it harder to make friends/ develop relationships because of fashion? thread as well.

Had the opportunity to attend one of their dinners at the Apolis Common Gallery in LA. Met very friendly people, had a pleasant eve.

but I think this clip sums it up:

"whitewashing fences, harvesting berries, shucking and boiling corn"

These were extremely normal things for me growing up. My father had me me rake leaves for years and I never learned until recently that he had a leaf blower the whole time -_-

I also grew up with a rotary phone...so I have no idea why people willingly go out of their way to get one now.

I'm laughing my head off. All the silage shoveling and cow milking I did as a kid is now some nouveau "curated lifestyle" activity? If the hipsters are feeling whimsical I know a quaint foothill farm with authentic provisions and larder work to be done. Hell, I'll teach them how to make powdered pectin for canning.

Latecomers to the salvage-punk aesthetic perhaps.
