Yawn. Sounds like a typical New Yorker

I'm actually on the yerba mate kick right now. Get the water at the right temp. Brew her up. Prep the gord, clean la bombilla. Pour. Wait. Do some morning chaturangas on the beach. Sip. Reflect. Repeat.

Gotta harness the universe before taking it over.

Yeah, sometimes I don't always love that "clean" taste. Sometimes I want the rich mouthfeel that a little bit of suspended silt gives.

I think the "does it look sick as fuck?" logic applies here too -- at the end of the day, is it damn fine cup coffee? Then yeah, you won. Enjoy it.

I had a mediocre experience at Four Barrel a couple years back, but I've always just assumed that someone was having an off day. I've heard a ton of good about them and haven't been in the area to try again. Had some good beans from Ritual; Blue Bottle isn't exactly breaking new ground with their roasts despite all the hipsterism, but I've never had anything from them that wasn't prepared perfectly, and their baristas are bizarrely nice.

Style in coffee is bullshit, there's a time for everything and the reason such a large variety of methods exists is difference in taste and texture.

I've been using the drip method since I moved out from home and I got it from my parents who did the same. People should use whatever they find appropriate for their needs and taste. Drip, french press, moka pot, espresso machine, whatever. Do what you like. Simple as.

So, I checked out this Capresso burr grinder yesterday, but walked away because its built quality looked crap. Any other recommendations?

Where is the matching monkey that goes with that grinder?

Had this baby for 6 years, no problems and never serviced. I feel like I should do some preventative maintenance, but I just don't know what.

Rancilo rancho. An excellent home grinder if you make espresso. If you don't need the super fine grind probably overkill

This has been my grinder for about 6 years and it's great (tho I paid a little extra for stainless steel version which feels sturdier). My only complaint is the plastic top is rather fragile and if you remove it and set it into the notch wrong and try to turn it it easily breaks. But, this isn't really a problem once it's assembled and set, you just have to be careful when cleaning it and reassembling it.

Was also going to recommend Baratza also for a basic burr grinder for pourover. Or keep your eye on Craigslist for a decently priced Rancilio or Mazzer:

The coffee geek forum is also a great place for deals. I got my mazzer mini and my rancilio silvia off of there for less than half of retail. I've seen the la marzocco gs3 on there for around $3k too which is crazy. One day....

I have a saeco superautomatica at home which makes exceptional coffe provided you have exceptional beans. As far as coffee shops, I happen to like Gregory's a great deal, and the owner wears CCP.

                              A. No, it's a Rancilio Rocky.
                              B. Huh!?!? It's not about "super fine" grinds, it's about the grinds being evenly ground.
