        Really now?

The question that remains is what possessed LVG to let Vlaar take that first penalty?

Took the words right out of my mouth. That's coaching 101 - what the fuck was he thinking?

'Deutschland über alles' is the first stanza in Das Lied der Deutschen.
This stanza was followed with the Horst Wessel song during Hitler's reign.

That phrase has plenty of negative connotations.

Almost every national anthem has been used in dark moments of history. Ban this and you can ban every national anthem. Did you seriously think I was referring to the third Reich era? Can't bare this oversensitive politically correct bullshit.

It isn't part of our anthem.
Our anthem is solely the third stanza and it is exactly for the reason I mentioned in my previous post.

Deutschland über alles was added in 1841, if the NSDAP choose to re-use it, I shall never say those words again? Please, let's just keep talking about football ok?

                      Totally agree.
It wasn't even the NSDAP re-using it, it was chosen as the national anthem of Germany (Weimar Republic) before, in 1922. It is legal in Germany to sing the whole song, but it is not part of the anthem.

In the 20th century a lot of (democratic) Germans tried to reclaim all stanzas for the anthem. So...

Damn, i've been following dutch soccer since marco van basten scored that volley in 88! I really thought this was their WC. Again, why did a defender shoot the first penalty?! I don't care what kind of game he had, there's a reason he is a defender. Germany will beat Argentina. And I hope the dutch beat Brazil 8-0. Maybe Scolari will finally go away.
