great quote...such a powerful truth. The wilde quote was quite an interesting one as well. Disobedience as a virtue is almost validating my beliefs now, ahaa.

any reasoning behind your sentiment? I dislike when people make statements without giving some reason to them.

I've found it makes a good yardstick by which to measure the character of the people in one's life.

That quote since I read it has greatly shaped the way I try to engage myself with people and the outside world in general. But alas the 3rd category is all too common, the majority in fact.

"This is the point, to me, where art and fandom coincide. Every work of art is one half of a secret handshake, a challenge that seeks the password, a heliograph flashed from a tower window, an act of hopeless optimism in the service of bottomless longing. Every great record or novel or comic book convenes the first meeting of a fan club whose membership stands forever at one but which maintains chapters in every city—in every cranium—in the world. Art, like fandom, asserts the possibility of fellowship in a world built entirely from the materials of solitude. The novelist, the cartoonist, the songwriter, knows that the gesture is doomed from the beginning but makes it anyway, flashes his or her bit of mirror, not on the chance that the signal will be seen or understood but as if such a chance existed."

                      - Michael Chabon, from "Manhood for Amateurs"

I already quoted this in the Helmut Lang thread, but it bears repeating, "but I definitely don’t think yesterday was better because that’s just pointless. Once in a while, of course, that’s fine but as a general concept I think we have to live in the present..."

don't know it has been quoted, but today this feels good.

swami i love that quote - the first time I read it was on a Vanity Fair cover with Johnny Depp sometime last year (earlier this year?). One to remember and live by.
