so I’ll be in London next february for some ink and am looking for a room on a budget. I’d prefer a small hotel over BNB; in-room shower is a must, toilet may be shared.
Normally I don’t mind BNB, I think I want a more anonymous accomodation in this case :)

Dude, London is the very first place on earth where you should do AirBNB. Hotels are ridiculously expensive. I've never had a problem with AirBNB. Don't stay in someone's house - stay in a nice clean apartment specifically designed to be rented out. It will be just as anonymous and pleasant.
