oh man, teen cthuluuuuuuuuuuuuuu. hahaha, haven't heard that name in ages! i saw their first show ever and they were so fucking bad. then they got legitimately good. my buddy drummed in a very short lived band with two of the guys in cthulu called weapons of faith. their plan was to dub themselves as a christian band and play churches while playing super hard anti-christian metal.

doomsday 1999 was also very fucking good. i think the lead singer plays in a black metal band and does a streetwear label of all things.

doomsday was so badass live, the singer was nuts. he went to my high school! my old band actually got to play with them and crom once, such a good night.

a couple of the dudes from doomsday/teen cthulhu are in book of black earth, maybe that's the black metal band you're thinking of?

i saw doomsday 1999 once as well. very very good and insane. they played with a very terrible troubleman unlimited band. singer's name was zack, right? he used to run that one record label that put out the first sunnO))) record. he also played in growing, i think?

edit: whenever you mention teen chthulu, akimbo must be mentioned as well. the akimbo/teen cthulu 10" is almost laughable.

anyone in NYC want to go to other music and pick up the 5th jay reatard matador single that dropped today? I'd like to be listening to that but I slept on the preorder and other music is saving that one for in-store only...

in the meantime--

does anyone know where/how I can score a copy of the new OM 7" Gebel Barkal without being a member of subpop's singles club? I've been waiting months for this like an idiot only to get dicked over by subpop's unfathomable shittyness [:'(]
anyone familiar w/ a group, name of Cages? Caught them last night attending the show of a friend of a friend and was pretty blown away. Truly a powerful vocalist, great sense of atmosphere and dynamics and a bunch of other stuff I sometimes think I don't care about anymore in music. I wished I had had some cash for merch. I think maybe they only have cassettes for sale at the moment? I dunno... Anyways, here's their myspace, if yr interested... the live stuff was a lot more potent, which I think is mebbe a bit more rare in this day and age... though perhaps it's just 'cause I'm an antisocial grumbler that prefers the tonearm to the handstamp...
