Aidan Baker and Tim Hecker - Fantasma Parastasie

this is basically exactly what you think a collaboration between the two would sound like. no suprises but that's the good thing since tim hecker is pretty reliable about only putting out great stuff.

good to know there's other thalia zedek and carla bozulich fans around

EDIT: honestly, I could never really get into borbetomagus. the sound is truly brutal, but never really moving, which is why I'd take, e.g., kaoru abe at his roughest instead any day.

whoa, didn't know this album existed and somehow completely missed your post until now. I'll always remember the first time I heard janna lied off untraceable cigar and thought: this is what patton would sound like, if he were good.

(and to preempt any patton debate, let's just agree to disagree)

stylistically they are so far off from each other, it's hard to place them on the same comparative terrain... at least for me.
abe's generally this bleak banshee screech n' shrill frailing and peaking / frailing
and peaking that eats at your soul surreptitiously and gradually bit by bit till you're utterly worn to tatters.
whereas borbeto's a behemothic, almost epic, tidal wave that's out to destroy and brutalize from the get-go in relentless non-stop pulsation.

they do it for me on different pages but on the same if it's a friday night, decked out in ccp with tequila and black beer

                      speaking of brutal, (all hail)

fair enough my friend, but it's precisely that kind of one-dimensional approach (to my ears) that undoes my borbetomagus appreciation. it worked at first listen, but as I tried to go deeper, i found myself treading in sound-place: there was nowhere else to go. and I have no general qualms with sonic brutality as such.

but I'm happy to meet you in worshiping pose at the foot of the ra's altar.

I can't stop listening to Beach House. Usually my pop infatuations don't last nearly this long...must be a Baltimore thing.

Really beautiful, simple stuff. I'm never not in the mood.

haha....yeah, I'm a sucker for cheezy publicity shots.

I would say that while not all Beach House songs are the same caliber, the lesser ones tend to be good background music and are certainly not rubbish.
