sorry merz i was being cynical, polemical, and anti-american. while i'd argue that any number of european bands and musical movements (eg. industrial, oi, post-punk, heavy metal, etc.) from that time were far more interesting - and in hindsight, important - than no wave, i can't hate on the swans and can't deny the importance of sonic youth, etc.

        but hey, just curious ;)

if anything, i thought the concept of 'no new york, 30 years later' would be a depressing affair, given that ripely aging to elder statesmen status didn't fit in well with those nascent ideas of living fast and, uh, dying young.

present-day lydia lunch is a cronenberg-worthy exercise in body horror.
this is the essence of what my friend was telling me made lydia so compelling during the show. apparently she responded to the audience's adulation with genuine scorn. i can respect that.

                  the cure - 4:13 dream

of course i had to listen to it. i haven't heard anything about it yet so i went into it with some excitement since i remember their last album being decent. i actually enjoyed the opener but unfortunately it just opens you up for an album full of nothing but disappointment.
