I have the Rachmaninoff plays Rachmaninoff boxed set. Grainy recordings, but it's amazing to hear him play his own stuff. I used to belief I was Rach. reincarnated because I felt so close to his music. Only problem is I'm not nearly as good, though he didn't start concertizing until his 40s so there is still hope for me!

Quite bold to say your only problem is that you are "not nearly as good."
Rubs me the wrong way, but I guess you were joking.
Listening to one of the most extraordinary Detroit-sets I've ever set my ears upon: Mike Huckaby DJ Set @ Betalounge, Hamburg.
I don't get how it's bold, because I even dare compare myself? Anyway, I was just joking, and the reincarnation thing was a childhood fantasy type thing because I got so into his life and music at a young age when one has an imagination. His prelude in C# minor was the first big piano piece I ever learned and I bought about 6 different recordings of his piano concertos when I was something like 15 so it meant a lot to me then. I still have a soft spot for him, but as far as composers I idolize, I prefer Reich, Glass, Riley, Cage etc. Rachmaninoff wasn't an innovator. He made lots of beautiful music, but he stuck to his Romantic guns long after other composers had moved on (not that there's anything wrong with that).
Do You Realize - that you have the most beautiful face
Do You Realize - we're floating in space -
Do You Realize - that happiness makes you cry
Do You Realize - that everyone you know someday will die
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know
You realize that life goes fast
It's hard to make the good things last
You realize the sun doesn't go down
It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round
Do You Realize - Oh - Oh - Oh
Do You Realize - that everyone you know
Someday will die -
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know
You realize that life goes fast
It's hard to make the good things last
You realize the sun doesn't go down
It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round
Do You Realize - that you have the most beautiful face

really wish i had been able to see Ian Svenonius when he was in his prime and all cracked out (probably still cracked out i guess). i don't think he's even been through houston since i've been of age.
