In Bocca Al Lupo? Been out a week now, serious stuff. The 2LP is beautiful!

shit man, I've fallen behind the times. I was never crazy about dead sea, but everything I've heard about lupo thus far suggests it's going in a very different (and better) direction. glad to hear that you're feeling it too.

I agree with your sentiments on dark ambient, a lot of it is rubbish disguised as clever stuff. Luckily, Xela isn't like that. The new album is pitch black. Everything from Type these days is just sexy sounding, except that one Broderick record.

seriously. dragging a dead dear up a hill had me exhaustively going through the type back catalog and it's remarkable how much greatness they've put out. and coincidentally, currently listening to:

              The Knife... Neverland

Eyes are sober, this is the plan
I'm sitting in a car heading Neverland
A fancy man, a fancy man
He's pointing with the fingers that are left on his hand

Eyes are hazel, but far too cold
              Looking out for love
              But none of us can
Where's the monkey that I've been told of
I'm staring at the money that burns in my hand
              I'm dancing for dollars
              And for a fancy man

Come right over, I'll knock on your shoulder
This is a story and this is what I've planned
An angry man, an angry man
Nothing is more fatal than an angry man

              Vulnerable heights
Feed the hand that bites me
Following the steam into another room
              Standing in the corner
              Is this my home
Showing us love that none of us can
              I'm singing for money
              That burns in my hand

              Tell me
Will I make it home tonight

I'm doing it for dollars and for a fancy man
I've got a lot of money that burns in my hand

Are you afraid of women, Doctor?
              Of course.

I wish i could get into any of the Type records stuff. Most of what I've heard some gimmicky. Khonnor - not interested at all. used to work with a label and heard his early demos and maybe made a rash judgement. Logreybeam, xela....
Greiner I can get into though and I actually liked some of the depeche mode covers that that chauveau (sp?) guy did.

On a more positive note and slightly similar vein - what happened to asa chang and junray? That stuff is still classic for me. The Hauschka albums are also fantastic for prepared piano stuff.

Finally, look for my collection of SKAM releases on EBAY coming soon....

early hototogisu was good. the first 3xlp without bassett was dope and the subsequent cd-rs were good. afterwards, i stopped caring.

yeah, i like that 3xlp better than 2leps actually. Other than that, I've only really heard the Ghosts from the Sun 2cdr and I haven't gone back to check that out in a while. I will do so posthaste.

And I guess I kinda like Zaimph too.
I think they're easily the number one punk item.

In whatever biased light I see things, Type is just raw music, thinking, expression. Xela, Helios and Deaf Center (Neon City!!) are just bloody awesome acts with all ace releases. Grouper's latest record is seriously one of my contenders for album of the year 2008 - even though it fucking sold out on vinyl before I could pick it up! I guess I just have to pay extra for it. Chauveau is a vastly underrated and a superior musician. Everything he made is worth finding. The Julien Neto record is out of this world. Of the 10 records I initially dragged to the states when I moved here, 2 of them were Type releases - Chaveau and Neto.

Edit: oh yes. Listening to Pete la Roca - Basra. Tears!

I just found this girl trio "An experiment on a bird in the air pump".

                              They sound amazing ))))

An early drone/ambient classic which has got me exicted again...
