New Psychic Ills - "Mirror Eye". Best new music I've heard for a while. Prefer it to Animal Collective's new album, but they're very different albums.

clean hands go foul is just ridiculously good. wings from spine has possibly topped capture as my new fav khanate track.
also been spinning the new svarte greiner: kappe. it's way more organic sounding than knive, the sonics all rusted and salt rimed. reminds me more of a noisier salt marie celeste than any of skodvin's own back catalog. looking forward to spending more time with it.

a friend of mine who is writing a book on the us black metal scene named it his record of the year in 2007. it's damn good, for sho'.
there's just so much going on out there...
and as a general rule :), the only bm outfits allowed to "rock" (in a link wray mojoing sub-sub-murky ron asheton (rip) riffing holed up in a melvins garage circa gluey porch / ozma kinda way.. errr yea ) are (early) darkthrone and hellhammer.
ok, classicist or naught.
but awesome awesome call on deathspell.
iteratively horned and fisted ad infinitum.
their transformation / progression over the years has been nothing short of astounding and bordering on the groundbreaking.
they've singlehandedly redefined the bm plateau for this decade, nay, century.
speaking of the french...
does rene guenon preach from the altar of prog?

i'm going to second yr call on aluk todolo - that was one of *my* top black metal records of that year. heck, it was just one of my top records, period. the 7" was even more out of left field...totally kraut. the weirdo/experimental/ambient side of black metal ala aluk todolo, amocoma, trollman, wold and velvet caccoon is more my cup of tea, certainly.
give watain a chance live. that's what sold me on them. could have also been just the copious amounts of blood involved too...
re: have a nice life - q: i'm not hearing htrk or psychic ills at all. just a lot of bad 80s goth. and yeah, i concur...it's not doing it for me. i also really fail to see the black metal reference that the band claims to have.
and i'll see yr mt shasta and raise you a brise glace. skin graft's take on this heat.
and yes, my friend writing the book is mr stosuy. sweetest fella you ever did meet. his call to arms on usbm in the believer was pretty fantastic, no?

Listening to that new psychic ills turned me onto The Warlocks. Still feeling through it (listening to albums Phoenix and Surgery) and I would recommend it for fans of Deerhunter, or My Bloody Valentine, or really anything. Good stuff, kinda jammy Spaceman 3 vibe.Originally posted by merzperhaps one day pipcleo will post a wywt so non-euclydian & eldrich in its shapes as to turn all onlookers into throngs of dishevelled, muttering idiots
