hoover's best song by far. love the restraint in that...fuck they were amazing live. i still regret not going down to the reunion show a few years ago. they were always one of the best live bands i've ever seen. now if slant 6 would just reform, i'd be in heaven.

re: providence rock. it's a mixed bag, now that i'm going through it again. all that stuff was much better live and never really translated well to record, with the exception of 6fs, who were just an anomaly back in the day...they were the worst selling band on subpop at the time, but were the label owners favorite band on their roster. i was in a band that was on subpop for a while, and we were supposed to record w/ 6fs and i was freaking out.

i thank my lucky stars i got to see this stuff. being a teen in the dc/va/baltimore area was pretty fantastic. still, probably not as cool as being in the pacific northwest or chicago. but i did get to see my fair share of dischord bands on a regular basis. i was constantly sneaking out of the house to drive down to dc on a school night. fun, fun times.
sadly, i've turned into the 30 yr old assholes i used to see at shows when i was 17. fortunately i think i smell better, and get laid more than they did though.

re: excavated shellac - yeah, i've played a few things on the podcast from there. a bunch of field recording/audio history nerd friends turned me onto it.

also - amebix last night slayed. i had real low expectations, and they were fucking amazing. and maybe the coolest crowd i've seen at a show in ages...all crusts, punks and metal heads. and tons of women there, i was in shock. there was a huge pit and people were stage diving the entire time. i felt like i was 16 again, fucking brilliant.

you know the rules - dickies, chucks or docs, keys dangling from yr belt loop. white undershirts or a workshirt.
