Wow, what a coincidence. I just came to this thread to post my recent absolute obsession over Antony and the Johnson's "The Crying Light" but you beat me to it Kunk. I've liked him since his first album, but this one shows a new refinement in the arrangements, the Johnson's are really a fabulous backing band. And from a compositional perspective the songs are really really good, he's doing something more along the lines of a romantic "art songs" than pop.

I had been putting off buying this album, but after seeing him in concert last week I had to get it. He was completely amazing in concert, his voice was even better live (unlike most "singers") and the band was perfection. One of the most moving concerts I have attended.

yeah, i still prefer a bird, but this is pretty good. saw them with current 93 about 7 years ago i guess by now. his voice is much more confident now though.

right now, deepchord presents intrusion - the seduction of silence. not quite as good as "the coldest season" - but it'll do just fine.

man, i'm such a sucker for the deepchord/echospace stuff. sure, it sounds *exactly* like basic channel/chain reaction, even down to the multple/nebulous names of their records...but i love chain reaction, so i don't mind.

don't mind blowing the whistle on this, as i wouldn't put it in a podcast anytime soon...but boy does it get me going.

that, and disrupt. as in the digi-dub disrupt, tho the dbeat crusts disrupt are aces too.

i've always thought the work that cale and nico did together was amazing and certainly for being at the time they did it. be sure to get "the end" as well.

i was listening to another psych classic this morning (although brazilian) that has been resurrected by the blog craze again: Marconi Notaro - No Sub Reino Dos Metazoarios (1973)

to whoever mentioned The The----my favorite bass i have ever owned was a 2nd hand Rich Mockingbird, formerly owned by the bassist of The The; he became a transvestite eventually... "jane" iirc

beyond the nico/cale thing, desertshore is another feather in producer joe boyd's cap. he may be my favorite producer ever. take a look at just some of the albums he produced (many engineered by john wood):
                                1967

                                1968

                                1969
