aluk todolo is not black metal at all sonically. but my reaction was due to their black metal motif on their myspace page.

What?!!? Man, I was so bummed when I missed them last time they passed through town. The show sold out in like a day. Where are they playing and are tix available...?!?
Back in NYC on monday...gonna miss bone awl...
I don't disagree with either of you guys about Aluk Todolo, but I think they consider themselves black metal, and I could be wrong, but I think their last record was also marketed as being such. Whatever they are - they're phenomenal. I hope they don't play out though - so much of their sound is that lo-fi aesthetic, and I just don't think they could pull it off live...unless they were crazy loud, then it would just be amazing.

Been listening to Deceit from This Heat a lot.
Does anyone know Wetnurse or Lord Mantis? They are playing a show in Baltimore soon and it seems like some pretty sick black metal going off the respective myspaces.
Worth going?

what i will especially recommend is their 2nd album - in jeraspunta - which, imo, is easily one of the best things i've heard from this decade... of any genre, nevermind black metal. it should be considered a classic of the bm canon. here's a highlight from that album - the title track. every time i hear this particular track i can't help but think of them as bastard spawns of magma or ruins (tatsuya yoshida) and early gen norwegian bm or french black legionary kvlt hellholers. yea, and throw in a good dose of amon duul i references somewhere in there for less the music than a sense of the teutonic tribalistic tendencies that seem to permeate the shenanigans behind that record.
on a slightly different but not unrelated tangent, here's some classic slaaaaying old death. i hear they're back...Last edited by klangspiel; 06-23-2009, 04:29 AM.
