Same here, even though PJ Harvey, Nick Cave and Tom Waits
was more on the menu for me back then. Still is.
For the Smashing Pumpkins, they have stayed where others have failed.

No I just always saw him as a pompous ass who put out albums with a couple of great songs and loads of filler. Plus almost everything after adore was pathetic (and even Adore I can't really listen to anymore)

The best album of SP is definitely Melon collie and the infinite sadness for me, nearly all the songs are great. Debute SP is kind of the link between the psychedelism of the 70's and the 90's.

Siemese dream is still an epic album though, "Soma" is by far the best track they made, imo.

Listened to Low today -

long division, secret name, thing we lost in the fire...

always thought the above to be low's strongest material

just how itunes seem to be organized while I was working...but have to say that special place in my heart for long division (when I discovered Low - a new release that i was required to play at college radio station). Love the ones you mentioned as well.
